Acne is a very common skin condition that, if severe, can be embarrassing for its sufferers. It can pop up as blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, and papules. If it goes out of hand, it can result in painful cysts and nodules that lead to future scarring. Acne is not confined just to the face. The shoulders, chest, back, legs, and the buttocks can be affected as well.

In order to prevent acne, it’s important to maintain the right diet and take proper care of your skin. The following simple everyday routine can go a long way in helping you achieve smooth and beautiful skin, so do try to implement it as far as possible:

  • Keep your face clean by washing it daily.
  • Use oil-free moisturizers on your skin post-washing, in order to retain moisture
  • Eat a well-balanced meal
  • Eat multi-vitamins daily to fulfill the skin’s nutritional needs. Zinc, Vitamin A, and Vitamin E are very effective at maintaining the skin.
  • Remove make-up before going to bed
  • Drink at least 8 glasses of water everyday
  • Exercise
Natural acne remedies such as tea tree oil and aloe vera, as well as natural formulations like acnexus can be as effective as their chemical counterparts, minus the side effects. Be patient, though, because it requires consistency and discipline to get the kind of skin you want.

Phentermine, a contraction for "phenyl-tertiary-butylamine", is basically an appetite suppressant belonging to the amphetamine and phenethylamine category. It is a centrally acting drug approved to be used to help bring down weight in obese patients when used over the short-term along with exercise and diet. Generally, it’s prescribed for those people who have a high health risk due to their weight. The mechanism of the drug involves releasing certain chemicals in the brain that help put a stop to hunger and hence slow down the appetite.

Since Phentermine acts through sympathomimetic pathways, it is associated with a lot of side effects. For example, it may elevate blood pressure and heart rate, and cause palpitations, restlessness, and insomnia. Moreover, it has the potential to cause physical and psychological dependence. Some other common possible symptoms are: irritability, nervousness, sense of well-being, dry mouth, unpleasant taste, blurred vision, heartburn/acid reflux, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, irregular heartbeat, nausea, skin rash, stomach pain, and fatigue.

In case you have any of the following medical conditions, make sure you consult with your doctor before using Phentermine:

      • Pregnant, thinking of becoming pregnant, or are breast-feeding
      • Using any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
      • Suffering from allergies to foods, medicines, or other substances
      • Suffering from a brain or spinal cord disorder, high blood pressure, hardening of the arteries, diabetes, or high cholesterol/lipid levels.

My last post on Big Bang - CERN's Large Hadron Collider Rap Video had a few readers asking me who the author and rapper of that video about high-energy particle physics is. Well, her name is Kate McAlpine, aka alpinekat (photo on the left). She is a science writer who works at CERN and who also has a rap about neurons on YouTube.

Her rap video about the Large Hadron Collider, the particle accelerator that has been built in a 17-mile circular tunnel at the CERN laboratory near Geneva, Switzerland, has drawn almost 3 million views and counting so far on YouTube.

McAlpine rapped that when the collider starts functioning, "the things that it discovers will rock you in the head."

The world's biggest physics experiment has succeeded in its first major test as CERN's Large Hadron Collider has started functioning today. A beam of protons was successfully fired all the way around a 17-mile tunnel beneath the Swiss-French border. CERN is the French acronym for an outfit called the European Organization for Nuclear Research, which has created this Large Hadron Collider 300 feet below the Swiss-French border. The scientists will be firing the protons — a type of subatomic particle — around the tunnel in stages, several miles at a time.

Once the beam has successfully been tested in clockwise direction, CERN will send it counterclockwise. Eventually, and possibly after a month, the two beams will then be fired in opposite directions with the aim of smashing together protons to see how they are made. This collision of protons will occur at really fast speeds until they create conditions similar to the moment just before or after the Big Bang.

This experiment, which has been eagerly awaited by 9,000 physicists around the world, is fraught with objections by a plethora of skeptics who fear the collisions of protons will bring about doomsday, since they may destroy the earth and wipe out mankind.

The following Rap video was made by people involved with the project, to create awareness about exactly what the experiment is about. It's more of an educational rap video - check it out below.

For those of you who use SiteMeter, here's some news. The current SiteMeter platform will be shutting down very soon and the new one is tentatively scheduled to start up over the weekend of September 13th to 14th, 2008. With respect to this, there are a few facts that you should be aware of:

                  1. After the migration, all Premium Accounts will have to pay only one flat fee of $6.95 a month or $59.00 a year. This is applicable to both new members and current paid accounts.
                  2. Although the SiteMeter Website won't be available during the migration weekend, stats will continue to be tracked.
                  3. Visits Counts might be different, but they will be more accurate on the new platform. How so? The visit Counts will likely be higher, because the new platform will have the ability to track visits using cookies. This will let SiteMeter distinguish unique visitors much more precisely than it could on the old (current) platform. For example, unique visitors sitting behind one IP address would previously be able to be detectd only around half the time, but utilizing the cookie system makes the stats 100% accurate. Also, there's good news for those who are currently using SiteMeter's Free service but have large volumes of visit traffic. Previoulsy, your visit counts may have been lower than actual. However, on the new platform, you will get unlimited capacity on visit records which will longer affect visit counts.
                  4. Page View counts will be much more accurate. This means that page view counts may be slightly lower, because SiteMeter has updated their Bot Filtering Database with the most current Bot list available. This gives them the ability to exclude counts to your stats from automated Bot’s travelling the internet hitting sites.
                  5. You may experience a small gap in your stats while they transfer all accounts over to the new platform.
                  6. You will have to “Activate” your SiteMeter account(s) on the new platform to obtain access to your new stats.
                  7. Passwords will now be Case Sensitive.
                  8. All your historical data will remain intact and be transferred over to the new platform.

I've talked previously about how Buzzshed is a great online video promotion tool. However, it is also a site for making money online. How so? Because on the other side of the coin, as a consumer, you get paid to watch those small sponsored videos and clips that advertisers are using to promote their products/services. Each clip carries a different rate of reward/payment and you are allowed to set the rate at which you want to see clips.

It's a good idea to fix your reward at the minimum amount, as that will give you more videos to watch. For example, if you set the limit at $1, then you will only be shown the videos starting from $1 and above. However, if you set it at say, 50 cents, you'll get shown more videos. This site may not have that many advertisers right now, but it shows a lot of potential to help one make money online in the near future.

Is there anything like eating “too much garlic”? Well, whether garlic is "too much" or not depends on the situation and person. For example, keeping the blood thin and slippery is especially useful for those who have arteriosclerosis or a previous history of myocardial infarction, as dangerous clots don’t form which could result in a heart attack or stroke. Garlic lowers cholesterol and reduces blood sugar/glucose levels, which is extremely beneficial for those who have diabetes. Also, when you feel a cold/cough/flu coming on, taking extra garlic works like an antibiotic and drives the virus away, so you don’t end up becoming sick or at least the duration is less (try it, it actually works and you will rarely fall sick).

However, of course, for about a week prior to having any kind of operation, you should refrain from eating garlic or aspirin (both perform the same function) because it could result in excessive bleeding from any incisions that are made. Moreover, you should not eat garlic and aspirin (or any other kind of blood thinning medication) together, as it would excessively thin the blood. I too was weary of excessive garlic before but, with experience, I found that eating some extra garlic just in the normal course does not have any bad effect that I know of or that has been documented in my knowledge. Can you tell that this garliholic has become one of the biggest proponents of garlic?!
